He is a stalwart of the of San Francisco Bay Area avant-garde jazz scene, playing and recording with many of the area&#8217;spast and current improvisational players, from saxophonists <strong><em>John Tchicai<\/em><\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marcoeneidi.com\">Marco Eneidi<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ochs.cc\">Larry Ochs<\/a> to koto player <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miyamasaoka.com\">Miya Masaoka (\u6b63\u5ca1\u307f\u3084)<\/a> and pianist <a href=\"http:\/\/matthewgoodheart.com\/\">Matthew Goodheart<\/a>, and with prominent visitors like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allaboutjazz.com\/php\/article.php?id=1250\">Cecil Taylor<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wadadaleosmith.com\">Wadada Leo Smith<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/music.columbia.edu\/people\/bios\/glewis\">George Lewis<\/a>, trumpeter <strong><em>Raph\u00e9 Malik<\/em><\/strong> and Canadian pianist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/artist\/paul-plimley-mn0000028313\">Paul Plimley<\/a>. Much of this work has featured the combination of Robinson and bassist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lisleellis.com\">Lisle Ellis<\/a> as rhythm section: &#8216;the best bass-drums tag team on the scene&#8217; (<strong><em>Jazz Times<\/em><\/strong>). During the early 1970&#8217;s he served his musical apprenticeship in the jazz world of Paris, studying with <strong><em>Kenny Clarke<\/em><\/strong> and playing with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.paristransatlantic.com\/magazine\/interviews\/silva.html\">Alan Silva<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/tricentricfoundation.org\">Anthony Braxton<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oliverlake.net\">Oliver Lake<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/artist\/bobby-few-mn0000764447\">Bobby Few<\/a> among many others. Today, it has become an all-star Bay Area ensemble, recognizable by its unique instrumentation of violin, trombone, piano, and voice.
