Through years of near constant touring throughout the US and Europe, often performing for audiences in cities and towns where improvised music had never before been heard, he came to be regarded as something of an underground legend, &#8220;the Johnny Appleseed of Improvised Music&#8221;. He is accused of impersonating pigs, ducks and human blowhards, but lately has been remembering the proper use of the saxophone &#8211;to support up the tottering universe.
