The difference is that, unlike the yakitori joint, the <strong>SIMM Series<\/strong> is a spaceship that travels to other musical dimensions.<\/p>\n<p>An acoustic-centered sister of the Luggage Store Series, SIMM has brought the best cutting-edge acoustic jazz and avant-garde musicians in and out of the Bay Area to SF audiences and delivered one musical adventure after another.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m delighted as well to be playing with two of the Bay Area\u2019s most unique and unclassifiable musicians, clarinetist, vocalist, and composer, <a href=\"http:\/\/bethcuster.com\/\"><strong>Beth Custer<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> and synthesizer <em>sifu<\/em> (\u5e2b\u5085)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thomasdimuzio.com\/\"><strong>Thomas Dimuzio<\/strong><\/a>. href=\"http:\/\/bethcuster.com\/projects\/trance-mission\/\"><strong>Trance Mission<\/strong><\/a> holds special significance for me as a musician integrating non-Western and Western musics, and the sparkling, sensuous tracks of <a href=\"http:\/\/bethcuster.com\/store\/head-light\/\"><strong><em>Head Light<\/em><\/strong><\/a> are a wonderful place to hear the most disparate of world-musical Dimuzio<\/a> is a composer, multi-instrumentalist &amp; electronic musician, mastering engineer, sound designer, and label proprietor based in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>Long regarded as a musical pioneer for his innovative use of live sampling and looping techniques to create compelling works, Thomas is a true sonic alchemist who can seemingly create music events out of almost anything. Kaars, www.peterbkaars.com)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We have the honor to share the bill with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edgetonerecords.com\/moxie.html\"><strong>Noertker&#8217;s Moxie<\/strong><\/a>, the long-standing ensemble of bassist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noertker.com\">Bill Noertker<\/a>, who comes to the show fresh from a recent triumph at the 2014 Outsound New Music Summit with his ensemble <strong>Obstreperous Doves<\/strong> (w Dave <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davemihaly.com\">Mihaly<\/a>, Nava <a href=\"http:\/\/www.navadunkelman.com\">Dunkelman<\/a>, Karl <a href=\"http:\/\/karlevangelista.com\/\">Evangelista<\/a>, and Christina <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christinastanley.net\">Stanley<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Bill started out as a trombonist, then moved to the electric, and eventually, the acoustic, bass. In high school a teacher gave him <strong><em>Count Basie Jam: Montreux &#8217;77<\/em><\/strong>, with Ray Brown on bass. Later that year, he heard Benny Goodman&#8217;s version of <strong><em>Sing Sing Sing<\/em><\/strong> while tripping on acid. These two events changed his perspective <em>entirely<\/em>, and he later became further de-tethered by dangerous levels of exposure to the music of Ornette <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ornettecoleman.com\">Coleman<\/a>, Cecil <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cecil_Taylor\">Taylor<\/a>, and the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artensembleofchicago.com\">Art Ensemble of Chicago<\/a> \u2014<\/strong> tempered by the administration of cooling doses of Duke Ellington.<\/p>\n<p>After studying with Putter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.puttersmith.net\/Putter_Smith_Official_Website\/Home.html\">Smith<\/a> (&#8230;who also played assassin Mr. Kidd in the James Bond movie, <strong><em>Diamonds Are Forever<\/em><\/strong><em>\u2026<\/em>) and Bobby <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jazzweekly.com\/interviews\/bradford.htm\">Bradford<\/a>, Bill moved to San Francisco and studied composition under Aldo <strong>Ryzy-Ryski<\/strong> and and bass with Mandy\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mandyflowers.com\">Flowers<\/a> while a member of the experimental art rock band, <strong>Bardo<\/strong>, three of whose members, Bill, Annelise <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annelisezamula.com\">Zamula<\/a>, and Dave <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davemihaly.com\">Mihaly<\/a>, later formed the <strong>After the End of the World Coretet<\/strong>. Dal\u00ed, Joan Mir\u00f3, &amp; Wassily Kandinsky (\u0412\u0430\u0441\u0438\u043b\u0438\u0439 \u041a\u0430\u043d\u0434\u0438\u043d\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439) \u2014 to create a large body of work that uses their paintings as a graphic seed for subtly surreal jazz compositions and suites such as the <strong><em>Blue Rider Su<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>ite<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>Sketches Of Catalonia<\/em><\/strong>, and <strong><em>Acrobats<\/em><\/strong> (a jazz ballet inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke&#8217;s <strong><em>Duineser Elegien<\/em><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<div
